Ambulance Staff Media One Day Workshop

(CC) licensed:gwire

Handling the press well helps everyone

This is a one day training course designed specifically for ambulance staff and paramedics-addressing their different needs and diverse range of skills.

Ambulance staff and paramedics are often the first point of contact for the media, when a major incident, disaster or tragedy occurs. Other Emergency Services, such as Fire Services and the Police, regularly get media training and the Ambulance Services should be no different.

Ambulance Services are constantly in the media gaze, because of the frontline, emergency nature of the services they provide. Both the public and media spotlight are constantly on them and the need to manage your reputation (and enhance it) is paramount.

This workshop will be aimed at ambulance personnel (rather than Directors of Service or senior managers) from an absolute beginner's perspective.

We will assume that participants will have no experience in handling press, radio or television interviews and take them through their paces accordingly.

We will help you:

  • Establish ground rules for giving media interviews.
  • Develop the media skills of ambulance personnel from scratch.
  • Develop a sense of "news awareness" and media protocols.
  • Understand the needs of the media while managing an emergency situation yourself.
  • Develop the skills for effective Press, Radio and TV interviews.
  • Handle Crisis Management and Success Message scenarios.
  • Turn around blame culture prevalent in the Media.
  • Put over a positive image of Ambulance Services.
  • Improve proactive communication of your achievements.
  • Help each participant become an effective media communicator.

This Media Training Course will help Ambulance Service Personnel achieve successful media interviews.

The course will improve media awareness within the ambulance service helping you achieve two goals in one: effective communication with the public through the media, while not jeopardising the emergency nature of the work you do.
