![]() Andrew Carapiet is a former BBC Health and Local Government Correspondent. He has covered most health, NHS, political, Local Government and Social Affairs issues for BBC News, as well as being a media trainer for the past fifteen years. Andrew has been a journalist for fifteen years, mainly with the BBC as a Television Producer on national news programmes, broadcast from TV Centre in London. He started as a freelance print journalist for several newspapers across England, before joining the BBC in 1987. He became a reporter, producer and presenter for BBC Radio, before turning to television in 1990. He joined BBC Breakfast News as a Producer, working alongside Nicholas Witchell and the late Jill Dando. Andrew spent five years with BBC Television, where he worked for all the major news programmes, including the Six O'Clock News and the Nine O'Clock News, with Michael Buerk and Peter Sissons. He served for a year on the Ten Year Strategy Committee for the BBC's News & Current Affairs Directorate. He left the BBC in 1995 to set up Britain's first National Cable Channel for the Mirror Group, where he worked as a Programme Editor and Senior Producer. He has also worked as a Producer for BSkyB and Sky News. Andrew has been a Media Trainer since 1991 and is a Director of Media Friendly Ltd. He is an NHS and Public Sector specialist and has conducted many media training courses for Health Authorities, NHS Trusts, PCTs, Local Government, Housing Associations, the Home Office and the Department of Health.
