![]() George is a media and communication skills trainer and a part time university lecturer. But George is no dull academic, in his long career he has worked in a wide range of roles within the press and media industries and he is very much a people person. His lecturing is to graduates and undergraduates at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester University and to people in work who attend courses run by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). He has even lectured to members of the CIPR at major seminars in London. The CIPR is the UK's leading public relations industry professional body. Founded in February 1948, it today has over 9000 members. George still contributes regularly to national newspapers and magazines. In 1995 he was named North West Feature Writer of the Year. He also writes for several award-winning in-house magazines on matters ranging from NHS estates management to call centre operations. From the beginning of the 1980s George has worked as a writer, both in staff positions and as a freelancer for the complete range of newspapers from regional papers to national tabloids and broadsheets. He worked for a year as an on screen reporter for SKY TV, but more recently as co-scripter of an award-winning BBC TV documentary on child slavery. Also one of his reports on an asylum seeker accused of murder was turned into a 45-minute documentary in the BBC's current affairs flagship series Correspondent.
